Siemens achieved steady growth in China during fiscal year 2014 (October 1, 2013 to September 30, 2014), continuing the successful history of Siemens' 142 years in China. "As a trusted long-term partner in China, we achieved new successes in fiscal year 2014 by adding value to customers through further localization and innovation," said Lothar Herrmann, President and CEO of Siemens Ltd., China. "Siemens is committed to building strong partnerships with customers and leveraging our technological expertise to contribute to China's long-term sustainable and high-quality development."
Achieving steady growth in China
In fiscal year 2014, Siemens China achieved steady growth. In the energy sector, Siemens won an order to supply 12 compressor units for the Shenhua Ningxia Coal Liquefaction Project. Once operational, the plant will have an annual capacity of 4 million tons, becoming the world's largest coal liquefaction project, marking another breakthrough in China's coal chemical industry. Siemens' world-leading compressor solutions will help customers achieve optimal plant lifecycle performance.
Siemens is also working to promote modern urbanization in China. In 2014, Siemens signed a contract with the Zhuhai Transportation Bureau in Guangdong Province to provide a turnkey Traffic Management System (TMS) project, Siemens' first such project in China. Siemens also participated in the construction of Zhuhai's first tram line, providing a tram signal priority system to improve the efficiency and attractiveness of public transportation.
Further strengthening localization efforts to meet customer needs
Siemens has further intensified localization efforts, getting closer to customers and providing the optimal combination of products and services to promote sustainable and high-quality development in China.
To meet the comprehensive development of healthcare in China, especially the service demands brought by the rapid growth of primary healthcare, Siemens established the Siemens Medical Services Xi'an Operation Center in May this year, bringing high-tech service models to more people. In addition, Siemens X-ray Vacuum Technology (Wuxi) Co., Ltd. and Siemens (Shenzhen) Magnetic Resonance Co., Ltd. have completed new plants to enhance R&D capabilities and productivity to meet the needs of the Chinese and global markets.
In response to the Chinese government's initiative to develop the new energy vehicle industry, Siemens signed an agreement with Beijing Automotive Group Co., Ltd. to establish a joint venture to produce electric drive powertrain systems, bringing more new energy vehicle drive technologies to the Chinese market.
As a trusted partner committed to promoting China's socio-economic development, Siemens has actively participated in corporate social responsibility activities. In 2009, Siemens launched a nationwide employee volunteer education program for children of migrant workers' schools in China—the Green Education Program, which has benefited about 18,000 students to date. More than 1,800 Siemens employee volunteers have contributed approximately 14,000 hours to the program. In October this year, the program was awarded the "Community Projects and Social Innovation" award at the first Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Awards held by the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China. In 2014, Siemens also released China's first "Community Green Map" in Beijing and Shanghai, promoting green lifestyles and sustainable community development.
"According to the 'Siemens 2020 Company Vision,' Siemens China will focus on growth areas of electrification, automation, and digitalization," said Herrmann. "Our product and service portfolio fully meets China's high-quality growth needs, enabling us to continue as a trusted partner in China by fully leveraging our expertise and capabilities to serve local customers."
