Siemens recently won its first urban rail transit unmanned driving project in China, providing core components and key technologies for the fully automated unmanned driving vehicle traction system of Shanghai Rail Transit Line 18 Phase I project. " Winning Shanghai Metro 18 Line project is Siemens' first breakthrough in the field of urban rail transit unmanned driving in China and is of milestone significance. ” Frank Hagemeier, Executive Vice President of Siemens (China) Ltd. and President of Siemens China Major Market Rail Transit Group, Frank Hagemeier said, " Together with our partner Beijing Zongheng Electromechanical Technology Development Co., we will provide more competitive products, technologies, and solutions for the rapidly developing Chinese urban rail unmanned driving market. ”
According to the project contract, Siemens will provide the line's 50 train sets 6 of fully automated unmanned driving vehicles with traction system components and services including traction inverters, auxiliary inverters, and train network control systems. Since this project involves unmanned driving, Siemens will also provide complete vehicle circuit design and field testing plans and coordination for the unmanned driving system.
18 Line Phase I connects Baoshan, Yangpu, and Pudong districts, with a total length of about 36 kilometers, and will build 26 stations. As one of the important lines in Shanghai Metro's new round of rail transit planning, its completion will have significant importance for Shanghai's urban planning, regional development, and enhanced network transfer functions.
Since 1983 when the first fully unmanned line was put into operation, Siemens has provided advanced fully unmanned driving system solutions for more than 12 countries worldwide, 16 cities, 25 lines, with a total accumulated mileage of 450 kilometers, effectively ensuring the smooth operation of fully unmanned lines for over thirty years. Unmanned driving will enable automatic train operation, reduce train intervals, increase capacity, and make train operation more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly.
